The Group
The Studium Iuris was created in 2015 and is formed by professors and students of Law and History of the UFMG, as well as by members and collaborators of other Brazilian and European universities. Among our activities, we can list: research, special projects and training of new researchers. From different approaches, our researches tend to address law as a local construction and as a relatively autonomous dimension of the reality of a certain time/space. The objective is to avoid i) the isolation of law from its contexts and ii) its reduction to a mere reflection of society. Considering law - especially legal knowledge - within communication networks, it is relevant for us, the insertion of research objects - even if nationals - in international contexts. Currently, our main themes of interest are located in the 19th and 20th centuries concerning the following axes: history of Brazilian criminal law in a comparative perspective; history of legal historiography in Brazil and Argentina; intellectual history of law; history of Brazilian law. We are open to partnerships.
Our Activities
Our main activities are related to the research on legal history. We also promote events on the field every year. We develop a special project on the Section of Rare Books at the UFMG Law School Library, with texts ranging from the 17th to the 20th century. One of our main activities is the study group, which is open to everyone and gathers every other week to read and discuss pre-established texts. All these activities are related with the training of new researchers in History of Law, within the context of the Study Area "History of Legal Culture" of the UFMG Graduate Program in Law.

Our Symbol
