Initiatives

This section presents the special projects of Studium Iuris.

Organization and dissemination of the collection of the Law Book Museum Journalist Assis Chateaubriand

The Library

The "Museu do Livro Jurídico Assis Chateaubriand" keeps the rare books of the UFMG Law School.

It has valuable works from both Portugal and Brazil, from the 17th to the 20th centuries. It is certainly one of the most important legal libraries in Brazil.

What do we do

We collect metadata from books in order to collaborate in the cataloguing process.

Later, we analyse some aspects such as language, author, translation, etc., making it possible to understand the structure of a legal library by the end of the 19th century (the Law School was founded in 1892).

Currently, we are cataloguing articles from old Brazilian legal journals, initially focusing on criminal law. It is a way to understand the circulation of ideas during 19th and 20th centuries and the main types of texts used in Brazil.
